Esports may help improve healthy life expectancy in the future.
In the past, games were preceded by negative images such as “games reduce academic ability” and “not good for mental and physical development”. However, with the rise of e-sports, the base of players has expanded to the elderly, and academic research is being conducted with the aim of utilizing it in the healthcare field.
This time, we interviewed Professor Takaaki Kato of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Keio University, which conducts a research project based on the “e-sports experience meeting” for the elderly. We talked about what kind of research is currently being conducted in the field of e-sports utilization for the elderly, and what kind of future is waiting for it.
